Overall Photoshop CS4 Extended is running like a champ in 64-bit mode. It sees 6GB of RAM and all my plugins are working fine. However, my older Wacom Graphire tablet isn’t working for pressure sensitivty in Photoshop. There is a solution!
I’m running Windows 7 RC1 64-bit (build 7100), and downloaded the corresponding driver file for my tablet (release date of Sep 10, 2007). It works fine, and pressure sensitivity works in Photoshop 32-bit and the tablet preferences. Wacom support said to download the driver for the Intuos 4 (Vista OS). The driver is WacomTablet_611-3.exe (link may change) and after removing the older driver and installing this one, all tablet features working AOK!
Make sure to apply the 11.0.1 Photoshop update as there are numerous complaints of tablet issues with the initial CS4 release (11.0.0).
Thank you! I’ve spent a week trying to get this to work; never once did I find those drivers on Wacom’s site myself.
Glad to be of help. I had to call Wacom and talk with customer support. They were very helpful though, and hopefully we’ll get the “release” drivers soon.
I’m using this particular file under Windows 7 RTM and it appears to be running fine.
FYI the Wacom portal now has the Windows 7 drivers available.
http://www.wacom.eu/ then click “support” and select “driver” from the dropdown. A menu will appear which allows the selection of Windows 7.
I’ve just downloaded the Windows 7 driver for my ancient Graphire and it’s called:
pro612-4_int.exe
These look like unified drivers for a number of the tablets. Disclaimer: waiting for my Windows 7 machine to be built so gathering drivers etc so not actually tested.
Best
Dave
Thanks for the reference Dave. I installed the drivers and they worked fine in Photoshop, but I started to get exceptions in Lightroom (2.5 x64). Ended up going back to the drivers in the post.
I noticed there are no drivers on the Wacom US site, will be on the lookout for them.
Thanks god I found you, I was getting desperate
I installed 612-4 RC drivers and it worked fine on Windows 7 x64.
I just noticed that FLICKS and PRESS_AND_HOLD (for right click) interfere with the pressure sensitivity. With any of these features ON (which seem to compute your hand gesture), and if you take a fraction of second before drawing the stroke, the stroke will be of fixed pressure. If you draw it quick, the stroke will be pressure-sensitive. Thus the issue of intermitent pressure sensitivity reported by some.
Anyway, press-and-hold interferes too much with drawing because it snaps the pointer at the starting point for a little. I only wish it could be deactivated per-application.
Thank you very much!
By the way, former drivers 605-7 worked very well in PS CS4 32-bit, completely ignoring flicks and press-and-hold.
I confirm that 611-3 worked better than 612-4. In 611-3, you can have flicks and press-and-hold for right click ON, because PS ignores these. In 612-4 you have to turn these pen features OFF to be usable in CS4 apps.
Thanks for the research Emilio. I’m hoping that Wacom will figure out the differences between Windows 7, Adobe, and the older tablets.
I generally only use the tablet for Photoshop work anyway, but the flicks are nice to have. I’ll upgrade to whatever allows CS4 and LightRoom to coexist.
THANK YOU! I had almost given up! so thank you thank you thank you
(now my pc is perfect =D)
